  1. Simple Info
As I am the principal of the school i asked the grade 8 English teacher for help. One of the biggest problems she encountered was getting the students to settle down. The students were using their tablets, recently issued to them by the government. Some members of the group did not stay on task.

    1. There are a few teaching practices that can be addressed here, however for the purpose of this module I will stay with assessment strategies.

      1. Did the students plan their learning goals?
      2. What do each student have to do to complete his/her learning goal?
      3. How do the student show that they have completed his/her learning goal?

e.g. Using the tablet the earning goal for the lesson could include competition and collaboration.
      1. Any student that is able to identify the lesson' s topic and on their tablets create a K-W-L and fill in what they Know about the lesson will be given the opportunity to ...
      2. The students then would have to organize what he/she or they as a group will have to do to complete a task
      3. The students will go to the collaborative Google Drive Document and tick what they have completed in the task columns alongside his/her or their names

Making students responsible for their own learning through self-direction, self-monitoring and self- assessment, then letting them see that their collaboration in groups is valid may assist in keeping students on task.

In addition, the teacher as the facilitator of learning encourages or fosters a clear line of communication on what are the expectations.

Formative assessment strategies effectively applied is perhaps what all the above boils down to in terms of assessment.

  2. In assessing the lesson that the teacher did, we would have to ask some questions:
    * Were the instructions given to students clear enough?
    * Were the activities meaningful?
    * Were the students actively engaged?
*Were the interests and learning abilities of the students considered?
*Did the students have prior knowledge and skills to complete the given tasks?
When these questions and more are answered then we would get a clearer picture as to why the students were failed to settle down and also engage in other tasks.

  3. Current Information

I found three websites that have detailed information on weather. I see that they can be used to teach a lesson on weather forecast.

    1. www.wunderground.com
    2. www.weather.com
    3. www.accuweather.com

I found it quite interesting how using current information as a part of assessment can enhance teaching and learning in the classroom.
